Case Management and Supportive Housing for our Local Women Veterans

Capital District Women Veterans Program Mission
The mission is to provide supportive services, housing, and community, enabling women veterans in need to return to productive and independent roles in their communities and families.

CDWV is a 501(c)(3) charitable not-for-profit organization prepared to fulfill its mission.­­
   
​To accomplish this mission, CDWV is led by highly qualified women veterans with professional expertise in nursing, case management and integrative modalities necessary to address the needs of homeless women veterans.


CDWV CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES AND SUPPORTIVE HOUSING
CDWV services provide baseline assessments of each individual in order to:
  • Identify those eligible to benefit from a supportive housing environment.
  • Identify healthcare, psychological and social needs, along with eligible services.
  • Manage scheduling, transportation, training, and employment requirements.
  • Provide a home environment with other women vets to form a supportive community.

One last mission: retired colonel tries to stabilize homeless women veterans​

TROY – For the last two years, a retired veteran has been trying to save homeless veterans, one woman at a time. It’s not an easy job, but it’s the last mission for retired Colonel Christine Rem.
The 74-year-old is a registered nurse who spent decades in the Army Reserve before being activated for active duty after 9/11. She was on active duty for six years, giving her a total of 30 combined years before her retirement.   (read more)

​2023 Special Awards

Female Veteran of the Year for 2023

Friends of the NYS Military Museum located in Saratoga Springs, NY  and  the Capital District Chapter of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) , selected Colonel (Retired) Christine Rem to be the Female Veteran of the Year for 2023 along with Sgt. (Retired) David Terry Fox who was the Male Veteran of the Year 2023 on Oct14,2023. The pictures of these awardees will be on display for one year but their names will be inscribed on a plaque forever inside the NYS Military Museum.

NYS Liberty Medal

Veteran of the Year award event was held at the Saratoga and Wilton Elks. Colonel ( Retired) Christine Rem also received the NYS Liberty Medal from Senator James Tedesco (NYS). It is the highest NYS Medal for a Civilian.

The Walter F. Larson Award for Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award

Colonel ( Retired) Christine  Rem receives “The Walter F. Larson Award for Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award”, sponsored by the "Rev. Francis Kelley Hometown Heroes of the Capital District" Annual Hometown Hero Award Ceremony on October 27, 2023
